FreshLife · Material scope & preparation
Know the material.
Then choose the next step.
Distinguish possible pilot materials, regional guidance and exclusions. This guide does not replace a specific recipient’s conditions and is not an active drop-off service.

Sort contents and packaging separately
After recording actual use, check what was really left. Partial use does not imply an empty container. Clean accepted bottles and cans may use local recycling routes; tea bags, filters, straws, seals and composite packaging need separate checks. Soiled tissues generally belong in residual waste. Large bones and hard shells vary by region. Batteries and medicines require local specialist guidance.
FreshLife does not collect materials or issue redeemable rewards. Personal handling records are not proof of acceptance or recycling. Follow your local official guidance and collection point requirements.

Used tea leaves
- Proposed scope
- Separated used tea leaves with a known source; a designated processor must first confirm acceptance.
- Do not assume or mix
- Milk, syrup, leftover drinks, packaging, bags, strings and staples are not automatically included. Whole leaves, powders and blends may have different requirements.
- Preparation boundaries
- Read the campaign’s moisture, contamination, container and delivery conditions. Do not stockpile before conditions are announced or brew extra tea to participate.
- Planned FreshLife record
- Log as normal residue. Deduct tea inventory only once. Unknown weight can stay unknown; dry tea quantity is not used-leaf wet weight.
Possible pilot candidate
Coffee grounds
- Proposed scope
- Separated grounds from brewing, subject to a future recipient’s specific requirements.
- Do not assume or mix
- Filters, capsules, stirrers, lids, milk and other matter are not automatically included. Brewing methods and recipes can affect eligibility.
- Preparation boundaries
- Follow the designated campaign’s preparation instructions. Do not add water or other materials. Container weight is separate from the material itself.
- Planned FreshLife record
- Log as normal residue without deducting coffee inventory again. Do not infer wet weight or carbon savings when unmeasured.
Separate assessment required
Tea bags, filters and capsules
- Proposed scope
- These components are not automatically included with eligible tea leaves or coffee grounds.
- Do not assume or mix
- Fibres, seals, metals and plastics can differ. A biodegradable claim does not mean every local facility accepts the item.
- Preparation boundaries
- Use a facility or brand-specific route only when it explicitly accepts the component. If safe separation or identification is unclear, ask first.
- Planned FreshLife record
- Record contents and components separately. Multiple components can arise from one use, but one delivery receipt cannot claim benefits twice.
Regional guidance only
Food bottles, cans and containers
- Proposed scope
- Guidance would cover packaging explicitly accepted by local facilities, based on material and facility rules.
- Do not assume or mix
- Lids, labels, composite layers and contamination may change requirements. A bottle-like shape alone does not establish recyclability.
- Preparation boundaries
- Follow the facility’s instructions for residue, separation and preparation. This scope page is not an acceptance guarantee at any location.
- Planned FreshLife record
- Log packaging only when an empty container actually exists. Partial food use does not create an empty bottle; packaging and food quantities stay separate.
Check first; do not guess
Composite or unknown packaging
- Proposed scope
- Keep the destination unknown when the material or a suitable local route cannot be confirmed.
- Do not assume or mix
- Drink cartons, flexible pouches and coated packaging do not share one universal rule. An environmental label is not automatic acceptance.
- Preparation boundaries
- Check with a local facility or an explicit brand programme. Do not place unconfirmed packaging into tea, coffee or another incompatible material stream.
- Planned FreshLife record
- Record the name and known material without requiring photos or precise location. No confirmed route means no “recycled” status.
Outside the proposed pilot
Mixed food waste, bones and used oil
- Proposed scope
- These streams are outside the tea-and-coffee pilot; separate local channels may apply.
- Do not assume or mix
- Food mixtures, fats and leftovers cannot enter a single-material pilot merely because they are food waste.
- Preparation boundaries
- Follow applicable local food-waste or specialist requirements. Do not post these materials to FreshLife.
- Planned FreshLife record
- Keep actual food disposal and reasons. Local collection does not erase wasted food; normally inedible residues remain a separate category.
Outside this proposed pilot
Flowers and garden waste
- Proposed scope
- Another project or company’s processing case does not mean FreshLife has an equivalent route.
- Do not assume or mix
- Pots, soil, decorations, plastic ties and attached matter may need separate treatment.
- Preparation boundaries
- Consult applicable local garden-waste guidance. Any future expansion requires its own recipient and processing validation before announcement.
- Planned FreshLife record
- This describes boundaries, not a FreshLife project. Third-party cases, certifications and outcomes are not presented as our own.
Excluded; use applicable channels
Batteries, medicines and hazardous items
- Proposed scope
- Electronics, chemicals, hazardous sharps, medical waste and similar items are outside this food-residue pilot.
- Do not assume or mix
- Do not mix them with food packaging or organic material, or dismantle, empty or combine them to obtain points.
- Preparation boundaries
- Ask local authorities or appropriate specialist channels. Do not bring these items to a future food-material pilot or send them to FreshLife.
- Planned FreshLife record
- A personal record is not a collection or acceptance promise and must not trigger a recovery benefit.
Four things to confirm before delivery.
- The campaign is open and explicitly accepts this material.
- You know where and when to deliver, and whether capacity remains.
- Preparation, containers, contamination and measurement rules are stated.
- You can obtain the acceptance outcome and know where to ask for help.
If any point is unclear, do not arrange delivery yet. FreshLife has no open campaign; continue using suitable existing local channels.
